Behold

Genesis 1:31--"And God saw everything He had made, and, behold, it was very good."

Luke 1:31--"And, behold, you will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great."

BEHOLD. The dictionary says "behold" means, "to see or observe something remarkable or impressive".

The Christmas season leads many to stop and behold the birth of Christ, to behold the blessing of God coming down to earth as man. We sing, "Come let us behold Him", combining our voices into one as a church, offering our praise to the Father.

But God doesn't intend on us "beholding" Him during one small season.

"Ah, Lord God, behold! You have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. You show love to thousands. O Great and powerful God, whose name is the Lord Almighty, great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds." Jeremiah 32, 17-19

Our God is great and deserves for us to behold Him every single day.

We behold a lot in our lives that isn't impressive or remarkable. We put our eyes on things that take the place of Christ. What are you beholding?

What people are saying and doing on social media?

The shows on tv that vie for your attention?

The success of your children at their sport or activity?

Material things that you are building up to establish your kingdom?

The job that you have become a slave to?

What are you "observing or seeing" with so much time and effort that you are inadvertently claiming it is remarkable and impressive? Instead of fixing your eyes on the author and perfecter of your faith, what are you fixing your eyes upon? What is taking the place of God in your life?

What are you beholding?

SUBSCRIBE to this blog for future posts about how we can BEHOLD more of Christ and LESS of this world.
